I am still waiting to start my stitching project for Nicola's Scarlett Letter Year to arrive- do have a look at her blog.

I have chosen to stitch the Seventeen Sailors which is going to be a huge challenge for me as I have only stitched one tiny little cross stitch before. I am more of a knitter than a stitcher.

I would love to know the history behind this sampler and I am really looking forward to stitching it. I have asked for 14 count Aida for the linen as I don't think I am quite at the stage to tackle a 35 count linen.

  7. Hello from the frozen north and welcome to the blogland. I use to be a knitter until I discover the art of embroidery - now I hardly touch my knitting needles.

I was thinking about stitching seventeen sailors. After a long debate with myself and hours on Scarlet letter website I decided to stitch a pincushion and a M. Quertier 1799. Seventeen sailors went on my wish list.

There is nothing to be scared to stitch on linen. Aida is OK for cross stitch but I'm not sure the satin stitch will look good on aida. Maybe ask Nicola for her advice, she is done so many beautiful stitches, she is an expert!
